DeSoto’s Seafood Kitchen
After our dolphin cruise which ended at 3:30 p.m., all of us were beginning to get hungry. Rob and I had met a couple while riding on the Backcountry Trail and they had recommended DeSoto’s Seafood Kitchen so we decided to give a try. DeSoto’s is located 1 block north of the beach on First Avenue in Gulf Shores, directly behind Souvenir City.
Between 3:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. March 15th through October 14th (3:00 p.m to 9:00 p.m. the rest of the year), they have an over 55 menu. Prices range from $9.99 to $14.99 and each entree includes your choice of two side dishes and iced tea. If you want to split a dish between the two of you, there is a $2.00 charge. Linda and Herb decided to split a broiled seafood platter (scallops, shrimp and flounder almondine) with sweet potato casserole and rice while Rob and I opted to split the less healthy fried seafood platter (shrimp, oysters, flounder and crab claws) with sweet potato casserole and fried green tomatoes (sorry we forgot to take pictures). When the dishes arrived, we were quite surprised that they had already split the order onto separate plates in the kitchen. Nice touch! The food was really good! We’d definitely go back again. Based on the portion size of a half entree, I can’t imagine anyone eating the entire platter by themselves.
After that, we returned to Bella Terra. Linda and Herb left but invited us over to see their campground, Magnolia RV Park II which is about 15 minutes north of us. So after a quick stop at our place, we headed over there. Nice place! Small but very well maintained! The only downside is that it’s location – it’s at least 30 minutes away from the beach area but with the reasonable rates ($250/month), we’d definitely consider staying here in the future.
So we sat by the campfire yakking until around 11:00 p.m. when it started to get foggy so we headed back to Bella Terra.
