Exploring A Super Cool Museum & Tecumcari
Hello New Mexico! Our original plan was to boondock overnight at Russell’s Travel Center in Glen Rio, NM but that didn’t work out. As soon as we arrived we went in to ask about overnight RV parking and were directed to an area along the fence at the side of the building. Unfortunately a motorhome and a 5th wheel were already parked there leaving no room for us. Time to implement Plan B!
Fortunately we were able to make an on-line reservation at Blaze-In-Saddles RV Park which was another 35 miles further.
But before leaving Russell’s we decided to go inside and to explore the free Auto Museum. Wowsa!
It was incredible with not only vintage cars from the 50’s but also lots of other memorabilia. Very cool!
At the RV Park, we were greeted by a very sociable and funny woman, Candy who told us that the site we picked was the best site in the park because it had a view of Tecumcari Mountain. Her husband Kevin escorted us to our site #35. The park didn’t have a lot of amenities but it was very clean and well maintained. The sites are laid out so each one parks in the opposite direction to the next. We didn’t have any neighbors on our drivers side but eventually a 5th wheel came in and parked on our patio side. After settling in, we unhooked the Jeep and headed out to explore.
Tecumcari was a mix of dilapidated Route 66 properties and some that had been fixed up.
The next morning before departing we went to Del’s Restaurant which offers a mix of Mexican and American foods.
For breakfast we both had the breakfast quesadilla, a grilled flour tortilla, filled with scrambled eggs, hatch green chili, and a choice of bacon (we had), ham or chorizo, salsa and sour cream ($11.99). As they say in Mexico, excelente!
Back at the coach we prepared for our departure. Check out more pictures in our photo album!
